Welcome to Los Higos blogspot

Thanks for checking out our blogspot.

We are working in a village called Los Higos ('los Egos', meaning 'figs'), which is located on a mountain above Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. The village has a young population of about 600 people. The only place of employment is in two greenhouses, one of which can be seen in the photo above. Outside of that, people farm, look for work in town, or run small stores out of their homes.

Students International began working in Los Higos in 2003. The ag site is staffed by Andre Lara and Arlene Lee. Our ministry includes a kids club, networking between village organizations, and community Bible studies. The majority of our time is spent with children, gardening and playing, and just being with people in the community.
